Had another meeting with Max's teacher, today, once I was able to get him to talk to me about what was bothering him.

He's still struggling with reading and numbers, but his teacher - and both Chapel and Sloane - said that he's really coming along.

The problem, though, is science. He's having the hardest time paying attention because he already knows most of the subject matter. That's our fault, because living on the ship, he was completely surrounded by science, all the time.

MY KID IS A SPONGE.

He took a science-based test today, with one of the lab techs from the Calypso and his teacher, and it turns out he's nearly three grades ahead, even with the math trouble. (They had to read him the questions, because he doesn't know the words on sight, but he knows them when he hears them/has them explained in a "remember when we did this?"-way)

And, as timing is everything, he's now on break. So, El and I have an extra homework schedule for the monkey. As well as some exercises to get him to focus when he already knows the information.

And, yes - Chapel already pointed out that his mother could learn some focus, too. :p

Always knew the lad was smart.

Tell Max that Brownie's eggs are starting to hatch.

He's a genius! Then again.. I am biased.

I just told mostly-asleep him the news. I've never seen him jump out of bed half-asleep so fast in his entire life!

He's brushing his teeth and finding his shoes and he'll be over to assist.

I thought he'd move fast. There's really nothing to assist with. We can't help the chicks because they need to hatch on their own.

He just wants to be there for moral support.

And if the chicks know who he is from the start, they won't poke at him. His words, not mine.

He might get bored; they take a while to hatch.

Heh. Well, we'll see how that goes.

As soon as I get back from the market, yes. Smoked to perfection and just the right amount of sweet sauce!

Roast beef it is!

Are all the boys at work today? I have grossly overestimated and bought enough to feed an entire regiment!

We always have ranch hands here, they just work different days, I'll just let chef know he won't have to cook.
